— Silk & French Linen / Forestière Jacket —
A Forestière jacket woven with silk in the warp and French linen in the weft.
The Forestière is one of the jackets emblematic of ARNYS, the French maison once spoken of alongside “Arnys on the Left Bank, Hermès on the Right Bank.”
It has the refinement of a tailored jacket, yet is freer and somehow closer to an outer layer.
cantáte has reconstructed that distinctive presence through its own choice of materials and craftsmanship.
The fabric uses silk for the warp and French linen for the weft.
It is deliberately woven with a loose structure rather than fixed rigidly, allowing the silk’s smoothness and the linen’s lightness to create a soft drape.
The underside of the collar, buttonholes, pocket piping, and elbow patches use fine-grained, supple Entrefino lamb suede.
Rather than displaying leather across the entire garment, it is placed so that it appears subtly through movement—when the collar is turned back or a hand slips into a pocket. Layering different materials into the details gives depth to this simple jacket.
The cuffs are designed to be worn turned back.
Worn as is, it reads as a quietly monochromatic jacket; turned back, the inner color emerges, creating an almost two-tone effect.
It can be worn neatly, but it also welcomes a little looseness.
Rather than reproducing old French elegance as it was, this Forestière is made to be worn naturally as an easy layer in everyday life today.
