The leather comes from the hides of calves raised for meat, rather than calves raised specifically for their hides.
It has substantial thickness and a solid hand, yet feels pleasantly supple and resilient to the touch. Unlike leather that has been thinned and evenly finished, it retains the powerful character of the hide itself.
This jacket uses the leather in panels that are as large as possible.
Leather garments are generally made by dividing the hide into smaller pieces according to its size, then joining them together as the garment is constructed.
Here, unnecessary piecing has been minimized, and the jacket is cut from large panels, much like a woven garment.
To achieve this, large hides with consistent thickness, color, and character must be selected for each jacket.

The lining is made from back-satin gabardine, a fabric suitable for use as the outer material of jackets and trousers as well.
Even on the inside, normally unseen, a material with a strong presence as a fabric in its own right is used rather than treating it as mere lining.
