The raw hides come from calves raised for meat, rather than calves raised specifically for their leather. The leather has substantial thickness and a satisfying fullness, yet feels softly resilient to the touch. Unlike leather that has been thinned and uniformly finished, it conveys the inherent strength of the raw hide itself.
This jacket uses the leather in panels as large as possible.
Leather garments are typically made by dividing the hide into smaller pieces according to its size and joining them together along the way.
Here, unnecessary piecing has been minimized, with the leather cut into large panels in the same way as a woven garment.
To achieve this, large hides with consistent thickness, color, and character must be carefully selected for each jacket.
Rather than prioritizing efficient use of the leather, the construction places greater importance on the beauty of the large uninterrupted surfaces once finished.
The front zipper is by the British brand CLIX.
The lining is made from back-satin gabardine, a fabric also suitable for the outer fabric of jackets and trousers.
Even on the inside, normally unseen, we use a material with a presence of its own as a fabric, rather than treating it as merely a lining.
Not relying solely on the outer leather is another defining aspect of this jacket's construction.
The leather is soft from the moment you begin wearing it.
But its true character emerges over time.
Bending your arms creates creases at the elbows, the back stretches with the body's movement, and a subtle sheen gradually develops in places that are frequently touched.
