EYEVAN began in 1972 with the concept of “eyewear to wear.”
Among its collections, EYEVAN 7285 was born in 2013 by disassembling and reassembling the components, based on the design and manufacturing methods of “EYEVAN CRAFT,” which took shape through the high level of craftsmanship possessed by artisans of the time and their desire to create what they truly wanted to make.
Everything from planning and design to manufacturing is carried out in Japan.
The brand name “7285” was chosen as a tribute to the products and philosophy developed between 1972, when EYEVAN was founded, and 1985, when it expanded internationally.
EYEVAN 7285 “374.”
The designer deeply admires the artist Andy Warhol.
This model was created from the desire to have him wear it, “if he were still alive today.”
The design originated from a portrait of Warhol taken in the 1980s.
This shape was created through the distinctive approach of drawing the lines of the frame directly over the photograph and bringing them to life as a pair of glasses.
The temples employ a traditional Japanese manufacturing technique known as “shinhari.”
After forming the core material by sandwiching it between two sheets of acetate, artisans hand-round the sides using an old machine known as a “rotary file.”
Rather than shaving them uniformly by machine, the shape is gradually refined by hand.
This process creates the irregular, supple temple shape that cannot be achieved through conventional shinhari construction.
The sunglasses feature original Japanese-made four-base-curve glass lenses.
Their unique color is blended with metal particles and other materials, then each lens is formed individually from molten glass.
A single line drawn for Andy Warhol is transformed into eyewear through Japan’s surviving traditional techniques and the hands of its artisans.
From the design’s background to its manufacturing process, this model vividly expresses the philosophy of the EYEVAN 7285 brand.
