This lace is called “chemical” lace because it is embroidered onto cotton fabric, which is then dissolved through chemical treatment, leaving only the pattern behind.

Today, machine-made lace is predominant: embroidery is applied to fabric woven with water-soluble thread, and the fabric is dissolved to finish the piece.

The feather pattern is rendered three-dimensionally in cotton thread, at a level generally seen only in haute couture. Few people have encountered it in person.

It begins by setting aside preconceived notions about lace.

Rather than decoration or sweetness, we focused on the lace as a material—its sheerness, shadows, and the way air moves through it.

The lace used is delicate enough to meet the standards of haute couture.

Rather than polyester, it is deliberately rendered in cotton. The motif is a feather. The design is light, yet creates shadows with a depth that avoids sweetness.

The silhouette has ample volume, while the lines remain restrained.

The form is quietly refined so the lace does not assert itself too strongly. It works simply layered over a shirt or cut-and-sew top, while the sheerness is not decoration but“a sense of space.”It emerges as
