Mouton Vest〔ECRU×OFF WHITE〕
— Mouton Vest —
“The finest vest, born from Grandma’s bedding.”
The material used is mouton originally made for bedding designed to prevent bedsores.
Because it was made with prolonged, continuous contact with the body in mind, it has slightly different properties from mouton generally used for clothing.
The leather itself is thin, while the fleece is plush.
Above all, the pile is exceptionally dense, with a firm resilience that makes the compressed fibers immediately spring back when pressed down by hand.
It is not merely soft.
The lofty fleece has elasticity, wrapping around the body without collapsing completely. This distinctive feel is unique to mouton made to support the body as bedding.
The suede side has deep, clear coloring and a supple texture.
The material has entirely different expressions on its two sides, and we have preserved both as much as possible.
The design is extremely simple.
By leaving off the collar and setting the armholes generously, it can be layered not only over shirts and knitwear, but also over jackets and coats.
The seam allowances are deliberately left raw.
With thick mouton, folding or layering the seam allowances as in ordinary garments creates pronounced ridges along the seams.
Leaving the edges raw avoids unnecessary bulk and reduces discomfort when the garment touches the body.
A TALON zipper is used, with a leather tag placed on the back.
Plush, densely packed mouton made for bedding, resilient enough to spring back when pressed.
We turned it into clothing as it is, without obstructing its comfort with unnecessary construction.
This mouton vest began with the experience of touching the material.
