10eyevan is an eyewear brand launched in 2017 by designer Hirotaka Nakagawa under the concept of “beautiful tools.”
Based on the belief that “beautiful tools are an assemblage of beautiful parts,” the brand reexamines everything from the individual screws onward, creating each pair of glasses from “10 special parts” carefully selected over more than three years.
The parts that rest on the nose are shell pads carved from natural shell.
The hinges are shell-shaped, inspired by seashells, while the screws are hexagram-shaped β-titanium Torx screws designed to resist loosening.
The temples are also made of lightweight, highly elastic β-titanium.
The rims use titanium selected with even the uniformity of its metallurgical structure in mind, while the bridge incorporates original titanium parts. The materials and construction are meticulously differentiated down to the end pieces.
The lenses are made of CR39.
At the ends of the temples are K18 or silver balancers, which serve not only as decoration but also to optimize the weight balance when worn.
Screws, pads, hinges, bridges, lenses, and temple ends.
Viewed as part of the glasses as a whole, each is a small component.
Yet each one has a reason for its material and a reason for its particular form.
Rather than designing only the parts that stand out, 10eyevan creates each pair of glasses through the accumulation of small components.
This pair embodies 10eyevan's concept of “beautiful tools” in its purest form.
