Rough Flannel Shirt 〔BLUE BASE〕

“Ama-yori,” made by loosely twisting the yarn, and “ama-ori,” woven without packing the warp and weft too tightly.

This brushed cotton flannel shirt is finished to retain as much air as possible, from the making of the yarn through the weaving process.

When tightly twisted yarn is woven at high density, the fabric becomes compact and its outline more defined.
This fabric is the opposite. By loosening both the twist of the yarn and the weave, space is left for the cotton to gently expand.

The reverse side is then brushed, allowing air to collect within that fullness.
It feels exceptionally soft and light from the moment you put it on. At the same time, the layer of air provides warmth, and the fabric feels gentle against the skin even when worn directly over a T-shirt.

The check pattern is classic, but because the yarn itself has volume, its lines are not overly sharp.
Slightly blurred lines overlap with the shading created by the brushed surface, giving the shirt a dimensional character that feels subtly broken-in despite being new.

The chest pocket uses the fabric on the bias against the check pattern.
Rather than adding decoration, changing the direction of the pattern creates a subtle accent.

It has the warmth of a flannel shirt without becoming heavy or stiff.

By leaving room in both the yarn and the weave, we created an exceptionally soft, full-bodied check shirt.
