“Coolness is measured by how much room you have.”
Good evening.
cantáte Matsushima.
The theme of this collection is
“Coolness is a matter of composure.”
They weren't words I came up with intending to talk about clothes.
Those words came to me naturally as I thought about the “cool adults” I've met over the years.
I've found it strangely fascinating since I was young.
The truly cool never lose their composure.
No matter what happened, he never panicked more than necessary.
He never rushed anyone.
He never tried to make himself seem bigger.
Just having him there made everyone around him feel a little calmer.
He had that kind of presence.
He was also very knowledgeable.
But there's something else that has stayed with me even more.
Even when there is something he doesn't know, he isn't fazed at all.
“I don't know that.”
He says that and laughs.
And in the very next moment, he begins thinking, using what he knows as a clue.
That's why the conversation never stops.
It's not because I know everything, but because I never stop thinking.

I've never felt ashamed of not knowing something.
There are countless things I don't know.
But that has never caused me any trouble.
You can start by thinking from what you know.
Experience isn't about collecting knowledge; I believe it's about being able to keep thinking by using what you know.
だから、考えなくなることのほうが怖い。
Clothing design is exactly the same.
It's also important to pursue new materials and new techniques.
But more important than that is questioning the experience I've accumulated, reconsidering it, and trying again.
The slope of the shoulders. The amount of room across the body.
The way the sleeves settle. The lines the fabric traces as you walk.
Each one is truly a very small difference.
But I believe clothes that can change a person's presence can only be made by continuing to consider those small differences.
With this collection, I wasn't trying to express “ease” through oversized silhouettes.
They even make the person wearing them look a little more serene.
They look as though the wearer is relaxed.
I made these clothes hoping to imbue them with that kind of atmosphere.
Coolness does not come from adding something.
Knowing what to remove and what to keep.
And being able to remain true to yourself in every situation.
People and clothes.
I'm sure it's the same.
At this weekend's trunk show, we'd like to talk with you about the ideas behind each and every piece as well.
We'd be delighted if you could actually try them on and experience how they feel.
