The pain of choosing, and the resolve to wear it.

This is an old blog post, but all listed prices have been updated to the latest prices, so please rest assured.
Good evening. I’m Matsushima from cantáte.
AVM jewelry is simple, but its visual impact is incredible.
Every line and every surface carries an indescribable force.
While taking photos for this blog, what slipped out of my mouth was——
“This feels like equipment in an RPG that raises your attack power.”—those were the words that came out.
In Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy, the feeling of your “parameters rising” when you obtain new equipment.
Exactly like that moment, as soon as I slipped it onto my finger, a buzzing electric current shot through me.

I do not usually wear rings.
Because I work with scissors, pens, and cameras, I had avoided rings that might damage my tools.
No matter how much I liked them, the thought of removing them every time I worked naturally made me keep my distance.
But this ring was different.
The “exhilaration without discomfort” I felt the moment I casually slipped it on during the shoot.
The weight and coolness blended with my body heat, and I felt as if my breathing had deepened by one breath.
It felt as though a dormant switch inside me had been turned on.
Not decoration, but equipment.
That phrase feels exactly right.
AVM jewelry is displayed at cliché only after seeing and touching the actual pieces and being convinced by them.
So naturally, even though it was an item I had touched countless times, the sensation while photographing this ring felt completely new.
This was an autumn day, but still too warm for a coat or knitwear.
Amid the frustration of being unable to change my mood through clothing, the moment I put on the ring, I heard “the sound of the seasons changing.”
Perhaps it is simply a matter of mood.
But I think that, including all of this, that is what “adorning oneself” is about.
Gold is a mysterious material.
Though it reflects light and shines, it is somehow muted, evoking the weight of time.
Since ancient times, people have entrusted small lumps of it with prayers and power.
A metal that symbolizes wealth and authority while simultaneously awakening something more fundamental: human impulse.
AVM jewelry embodies that “balance between primitivity and intelligence.”
A presence the body craves, rather than the mind rationalizing.
And, as you all know, the gold market has now surpassed ¥23,000.
It is more than three times what it was five years ago.
With exchange rates at this level, I believe the pricing is honestly right at the limit.
If you are going to buy it, now may always be the right time.
Yet even the practical reality of money becomes irrelevant when faced with this ring.
You are simply drawn quietly into its radiance.
I cannot forget the words AVM designer Furukawa wrote on Threads.
it was a passage that reminded me of the “memory of nature” we gradually leave behind without realizing it when we live in the city.

In a story by Ursula K. Le Guin,
“The deer appears before the hunter of its own will. A hunter who does not understand that is merely a killer.”
Apparently, there is a passage that says:
While quoting these words, Furukawa spoke about the gold ring “HUNTER,” created in the city while holding awe and longing for the nature beyond.

“Weighty heaviness, inner landscapes, gentleness, strength, oneness.”
Reading his words, you can see the boundary between nature and humanity blurring within the ring.
The more desperately we yearn for nature, the farther away it becomes.
And yet nature always exists within us, and right beside us.
This jewelry exists as a catalyst that reminds us of that——.
It holds something like a “prayer” beyond design.

“There are jewelry forms conceived on a desk, and forms that emerge from within the hands.”
When I read that sentence,
and it was not his thoughts but something deep in his palms that began to stir.
He memorized by hand the shape of a whale rib found on the beach,
A bangle created deliberately “outside consciousness”He wrote about this.
Not a form thought through, but a form felt.
but one that bypasses the brain receives the world through touch.
“A thoroughly thought-out form cannot expand beyond that person’s ideas,
and I believe touch and sensation that bypass the brain can take in more from the world around us.
The only way to increase the odds of creating something you simply feel is good is to rely on chance,
The experience of letting the hands learn the work is important, too.”
After reading this text, I felt I had caught a small glimpse of the core of his craftsmanship.
Feeling rather than thinking.
Rather than designing, moving honestly in the direction guided by the hands.
It is something I share, in a way, when I make clothes as well.
I think RYTHME is a bangle born precisely from that philosophy.
It is said to have begun with “remembering by hand” the curve of a whale bone found on the beach, without sketching it.
Not a “form that was thought out,” but a “form that moved without thinking.”
A line chosen unconsciously by instinct rather than reason.
There is a certainty in that line, as if it were drifting between coincidence and inevitability.

In the end, creating may be an act of “increasing the odds.”
Move your hands again and again until you happen upon the moment when it “takes shape.”
Your hands gradually remember that accumulation.
Feel rather than think. Let it accumulate rather than repeat it.
I think that is the “memory” held by a craftsperson’s hands.
Furukawa-san concluded with these words.
“It is the same with cooking, fly-fishing, photography, or anything else.”
I couldn’t help laughing when I read it.
That is exactly right.
Keep going without thinking until your hands remember.
True creation can only reside there.

Inside the ring is astonishingly intricate engraving.
Can you see the wood-like etching?
Deer antler jewelry also lies along an extension of that philosophy.
A ring made using Ezo deer antler. The form is an armor ring.
The pattern on the surface,Expressed by burning each piece individually with a soldering ironis doing.
Of the 20 antlers, only one can be used as a work of art.
And only three rings can be made from that single piece.
It carries a rarity beyond imagination and the mystery of handiwork.
Within its inorganic appearance, you can feel a warmth like the scent of earth and blood.
Depending on how the light falls, it can look like metal, yet when touched, it has an organic roughness.
It truly feels like holding a “piece of nature.”
Fresh yet somehow nostalgic.
It is highly accomplished as a form, with strength and tranquility existing side by side.
As “nature” placed in the hands of the city, there is no better balance.

Using a tool like a soldering iron, heat is applied and patterns are engraved one piece at a time.
The appearance created by heat treatment has a distinctive texture, with no two pieces alike.

The left is new. The right is Ishibashi’s personal item, worn for one year.
It absorbs the oils from your hands and naturally changes to an amber color.
My hometown is also Hokkaido.
I remember squirrels being on the way to school, as if they had gone to school with me.
That is why you can clearly understand how direct and somehow earnest Furukawa-san’s writing is.
His base is Nemuro, almost adjacent to the Northern Territories.
People who have never been there may be surprised, but there really is “nothing.”
And yet, within that “nothing,” there is everything.
The sound of the wind, the scent of the sea, and the rustling of the trees—all of it is alive.
There is certainly a “raw rhythm” there that is difficult to feel in the city.

Beautiful handwritten calligraphy.
His personality shines through in those brushstrokes alone.

A jewelry box and chamois leather for polishing the accessories are included.
AVM jewelry embodies the coexistence of nature’s rhythms and human will.
Rugged yet delicate, sharp yet warm.
Although it is jewelry, it is also almost like a “device for resonating with nature.”
When you want to calm your mind just a little amid the daily hustle and bustle.
Or when you want to be overwhelmed by the power of nature.
I want you to try wearing AVM rings and bangles.
You are sure to feel a quietness as if you had touched a foreign land.
“I should have bought it” is the lamest thing to say.
When you have more money to spare, your sensibility dulls because you no longer hesitate.
That is precisely why you should buy a lot, worry, and make mistakes while they are still out of reach.
What clothing and jewelry can teach you lies not in the thickness of your wallet, but in the pain of choosing.
Even when you think that, you find yourself saying it again each time the seasons change.
“I should have bought it.”

AVM jewelry must be the same.
Beyond the act of “acquiring” something lies time spent honing your sensibility.
Small changes take root at your fingertips and on your chest.
The way you are seen, your posture, even your presence begin to change slightly.
As equipment for moving back and forth between nature and the city.
Quietly and surely, as a tool for renewing yourself.
In a sense, the modern era is the Sengoku period.
Everyone wears armor and moves forward while protecting themselves.
AVM jewelry may be small pieces of armor for composing the mind beneath that armor.
