How to Work with Black
Good evening.
I’m Tomioka from cliché.
Thank you, as always, for reading!
There is very little of July left. Last time, I wrote about being interested in fall and winter clothes, but summer is just getting started. More and more people have been visiting the store in search of a piece they can wear right now.
As the weather gets hotter, there are colors we naturally reach for—white or blue, for example. Conversely, some of you may have a color you “somehow rarely wear.”
For me, that was black.
Black is the easiest color to coordinate.
People often say that, and I thought so myself. But for some reason, it never felt quite right. No matter how many times I tried, something felt off. I could never understand why.
The other day, a photograph caught my eye at a certain museum.
A person with glossy black hair tied back, dressed in delicate black lace. Their appearance had none of the heaviness characteristic of black; rather, they looked extraordinarily beautiful. At that moment,
“With this styling, maybe black can suit even me.”
That is what I thought.
That was when I realized
It was not a matter of whether black suited me or not,It was about how I styled black.
If your hair has shine, your clothes can be matte. Conversely, if your hair lacks shine, adding a little sheen to your clothes helps the whole look come together.
I think sheen is a kind of allure.
If both have sheen, the look becomes too glamorous, while if both are matte, it becomes too subdued. I felt that even the same black can look completely different depending on that one element of balance.
So perhaps black did not fail to suit me; I simply did not know how to relate to black.

the piece that creates the sheen I had been looking for is
As I briefly introduced in my recent blog post,
It is the “Washed Linen Denim Chore Blouson & Tuck Trousers.”
The natural luster unique to linen denim has a calm sheen that is different from flashiness.
Its appearance changes just slightly when it catches the light. That understated sheen felt very natural to me.
Matsushima often wears this jacket
I would describe it as “less formal than a jacket, slightly more elevated than a shirt.”
Once you actually put it on, the description immediately makes sense. It is easy to throw on, yet simply wearing it naturally sharpens your overall look. It is a piece with a perfectly balanced position.
The Tuck Trousers, meanwhile, have a roomy, wide silhouette. I think the reason they do not look heavy is the light, airy character unique to linen denim. You can enjoy the width while still wearing them with a clean overall impression.
Wearing them as a set-up brings out the texture of the material even more.
Of course, each piece also works well on its own. Its impression changes depending on what you pair it with, so before you know it, you naturally find yourself reaching for it.
I think it is that kind of piece.

"WORLD IS YOURS Tee (Cartoon Letter) BLACK"
This time, I paired the styling with the BLACK version of the recently released “WORLD IS YOURS Tee (Cartoon Letter)”.
I am very happy that so many people have picked it up, both at our physical store and online.

The natural slubs characteristic of linen denim and its restrained luster.
I think that understated sheen is one of the charms unique to this material.
Its appearance changes each time you wear it, and it makes the color black look a little softer. That was what drew me to it.

"WORLD IS YOURS Tee (Cartoon Letter) GRAY"
Pairing it with the gray “WORLD IS YOURS Tee (Cartoon Letter)“ adds a well-balanced accent through the color of the print.
Although it is indigo denim, this combination has a light, refined feel that is not bound by the conventions of denim.

This 10 oz linen denim is made from 100% linen yarn rope-dyed in indigo. You can enjoy denim-like aging while also clearly experiencing the freshness and crisp hand unique to linen.
Although it has a strong presence visually, it feels lighter than expected when you put it on. I think that contrast is also part of this fabric’s appeal.

I talked about “black,” but this set-up was a garment that slightly changed the way I relate to black.
It is not a matter of whether black suits you or not; the way you style it and the texture of the material can greatly change the impression.
Since realizing that, I feel I have been able to enjoy wearing black more than before.
If, like me, you have ever felt, “I like black, but somehow I’m not comfortable wearing it,” please try it on at least once.
Thankfully, many customers have chosen it, and some sizes are beginning to sell out.
If you are interested, please take a look as soon as possible.
We would be delighted to chat with you while you try the pieces on in person at the store.
We sincerely look forward to hearing from you with any inquiries, and of course, welcoming you to our store!
Thank you for reading all the way to the end once again.
