The reason we didn’t trust “It won’t shrink.”
What determines a good shirt?
Is it the quality of the fabric, the quality of the tailoring, or perhaps the way it carries itself?
Perhaps it applies to everything, but when it comes to summer, it may be something simpler: “whether you can truly keep wearing it.”

Today, I’d like to talk about a rayon shirt.

First, the construction.
This shirt is an open-collar style with a boxy silhouette, based on the atmosphere of the 1950s.
It is shaped to be worn with relaxed shoulders, but the lines are arranged straight so it does not look sloppy.
A detail made by sewing a narrow strip of fabric inside out, like a belt loop.
Cheaper versions use cord.
The top button uses a thread loop.
It is a small detail, but when fastened, the expression changes just slightly.
An unobtrusive yet lasting touch of difference.
Shell buttons firmly sewn on by hand.
The buttons are Takase shell.
Its subtly muted luster, without a harsh shine, pairs beautifully with rayon’s texture.
If this part were made from a lightweight material, the atmosphere of the entire shirt would collapse at once.
A three-layer structure of face, interlining, and reverse.
You can see how the face slightly puffs up.
There are two cuff-attachment stitches on the face and one on the reverse.
This is the stitch that secures the floating interlining.
The interlining is floating.
By deliberately leaving it unfixed, we make the most of the way the fabric falls naturally.
Rayon is better allowed to flow than overly controlled.
Next, the construction and details.
Beautifully refined hand-gathering.
The cuffs and back yoke are hand-gathered.
It can be made uniformly even by machine, but we deliberately do it by hand.
A very slight wavering emerges, leading directly into the drape.
Clothes that look better in motion than at rest are determined by details like these.
Rolled seams sewn with heavy-count thread.
In other words, puckering created by chain stitching.
The fineness of the stitching and the treatment of the seam allowances are the same.
Because it touches the skin directly, we have refined it so no discomfort remains.
It is rarely noticed, but continued wear makes a definite difference here.
And then, the fabric.
A rayon shirting fabric designed with midsummer wear in mind.
It is lightweight, but woven with density.
Rayon’s characteristic cool touch and fluid drape.
Rather than pursuing lightness alone, the idea was to control it while retaining a little weight.
The ombré check is a twill made from four-colored yarns.
Colors overlap, creating shading that a single color cannot produce.
Quiet from a distance, with depth when seen up close.
I think it’s enough for only those who notice to notice.
This may be the most important part of this shirt.
I never thought I’d be photographing the care label...
It’s rayon, yet washable.
Because it has been garment-washed and tumble-dried, there is almost no further significant shrinkage.
In other words, this can be washed with water at home.
Ordinary rayon is dry-clean-only.
However, dry cleaning does not remove sweat stains.
Oil stains may come out, but sweat and water-soluble stains remain.
So even if you think you’re keeping it clean, things actually build up little by little.
As a result, you end up wearing it while fearing stains.
More than that, if you’re worried about shrinkage, you can no longer wash it at home in the first place.
The size might change with every wash, and the texture might change too.
When I think of that, my hand stops.
Before I started the brand, I was also someone who bought clothes made by others.
And among those pieces, some that were said not to shrink simply shrank as usual.
The texture can change dramatically.
I’ve had that experience many times.
Nothing was less trustworthy than the words “It won’t shrink.”
That’s precisely why we eliminate those concerns from the outset.
At cantáte, any item designed to be washable is given a full garment wash.
We put it through the processes that can cause shrinkage or distortion in advance.
It’s not so much for the sake of appearance as to deliver it in a state that can truly be used.
This shirt is the same: wear it, wash it, and wear it again.
It was designed with that in mind.
I think simple styling is enough.
Wear it on its own in midsummer.
Wear it as an inner layer when it gets a little cooler.
We’ve toned down rayon’s characteristic sensuality just a little.
In return, they leave behind a presence that doesn’t fade.
They aren’t flashy, but they truly endure.
it’s about that kind of balance.
Having a discerning eye isn’t about having more options;
Perhaps it means that fewer things remain.
Clothes that require care every time you wear them eventually become the ones you stop reaching for.
Only things you can wear properly and wash properly are what remain in the end.
