PRAY RING
An armor ring carved from Ezo deer antler.
The design is inspired by ancient armor.
The structure of protective gear, made by combining hard materials to protect the body, has been reinterpreted as a small ring that follows the contour of the finger.
In contrast to the organic curves of natural antler, the form is architectural.
The material, grown in nature, and the armor-like contours shaped by human hands are layered within a single design.
The surface pattern is burned by hand, one piece at a time, using a soldering iron.
The pattern is neither printed uniformly in advance nor engraved.
Because heat is applied directly to the natural antler, the color and depth of the charring, as well as the way the lines bleed, vary according to the density and grain of each section.
Even when the same movements are repeated, no two patterns are ever exactly alike.
Although drawn by hand, the final expression is left to the material itself.
Not every antler is suitable for use, either.
Even after examining approximately 20 antlers, only about one is suitable for making rings.
Furthermore, only around three rings can be made from that single antler.
Rather than forcing the material into a predetermined form, we select and use only the sections suited to an armor ring, considering their thickness, curves, and texture.
A hard, architectural armor form is made from antler that originally grew from a living creature's body.
It is then exposed to fire, leaving the charring and subtle variations created by chance intact.
This is PRAY RING, shaped by both nature and the human hand.
