About Rios of Mercedes
Founded in 1853, Rios of Mercedes is a custom boot manufacturer.
Based in Mercedes, Texas, the company continues to produce the highest-quality boots by preserving traditional manufacturing methods to this day.
Rios boots do not contain the cork commonly used in boot construction. Instead, fabric is inserted in its place. This gives the boots excellent flexibility, and combined with the softness of the soles, makes them exceptionally comfortable to walk in. Another distinctive feature is the upturned toe. The toes are slightly raised when new, but the curve becomes more pronounced with wear, developing into the unique “spring toe.” With sneaker-like comfort and remarkable versatility, these are boots you will find yourself reaching for again and again.
Rural Kansas
“Rural Kansas” is a pitch-black pair that stands out even among Rios of Mercedes boots.
As its name suggests, this model was designed to evoke the vast rural landscape of the American Midwest.
The all-black upper has a disciplined presence, stripped of unnecessary decoration. The muted sheen of the smooth leather calls to mind dry earth and the darkness before dawn. As the boots are worn, the leather develops increasing luster, gradually taking on nuances of gray and eventually deep green alongside its rich black color, maturing into a one-of-a-kind patina.
The toes feature Rios’s signature spring toe, with a subtly upturned shape from the moment they are new. This not only enhances walking comfort but also gives the boots a powerful silhouette. The leather soles are secured with lemonwood pegs, ensuring the dependable durability characteristic of traditional construction. They are a rare combination of the elegance of dress shoes and the ruggedness of work boots.
