“A Coverall as a Uniform”

What image comes to mind when you think of a coverall?

Most people would answer, “a worker’s uniform.”

But when you hear “uniform,” don’t you also associate it with a “sharp sense of cleanliness” and a “proper, put-together look”?

This coverall was tailored around that sense of “being a uniform.”

We commissioned the sewing fromThe shirt factory entrusted with making cantáte shirts。

From the feeling that “a uniform should be crisp,” we decided to have the coverall sewn at the same factory as the shirts.

The shirtmakers here are extremely meticulous.

As I mentioned before, there are so many shirts with “sloppy construction” out there that I do not want to have shirts made anywhere but here.

When you visit the factory,How much concentration goes into a single seamI am overwhelmed by it.

Prioritizing precision over speed, they put care into every single stitch.

I believe that taut atmosphere is expressed directly in the garment’s refined character.

Meanwhile, the painter pants in the same fabric should, conversely, be “irregular.”

Normally, garments made from the same fabric would be sewn at the same factory, but we deliberately separated them.

Even though they appear identical at a glance,The difference becomes visible when you look inside.。

The construction was designed so you can enjoy that contrast.

The details are impeccably finished, too.

・Double stitching with pronounced thread bridging

・As with a G-jacket, the underarm seam allowances are offset for comfort, so they do not dig into you.

・Large patch pockets are ideal for going out hands-free in autumn.

And the buttons are laurel buttons.

Generic buttons born during the Second World War, in an era of material controlsThat is what they are.

Not logo buttons, but the ubiquitous, so-called regular kind.

Though it was a branded product, we had to “deliberately” use generic buttons rather than logo buttons.

They are regular buttons, yet their very presence is what makes them irregular.

There is something strangely sensual about it.

The material is10-ounce lightweight selvage denim。

We used indigo for the warp and gray for the weft.

Normally, the weft is generally off-white. This time, however, we chose a muted tone.

The reason is simple:The particularly handsome vintage coveralls and painter garmentsIt is because the weft is often gray.

I cannot clearly explain why that is.

Yet, the gray gives it a more defined presence. There is no doubt that clothes like this carry a certain conviction.

The wear patterns and fading that emerge with continued wear have a character entirely different from that of heavyweight denim.

It is light and refined, yet it will develop into a rich, dimensional texture.

“A setup as a uniform” is comfortable and easy to wear, and before you know it, you will likely be putting it on almost every day.

For a quick trip to the shops, a walk on your day off, or a detour after workWhen you do.

Before you know it, I think it will become something you simply reach for and throw on.

Lightweight denim, with a weighty background.

Rational, simple workwear born during the Second World War, in an era of material controls.。

Taking inspiration from that design, we reconstructed it as a piece made to be worn in today’s city.

Coveralls were originally workwear.

That is what it is now.Like a uniform, it naturally becomes part of your daily wardrobe.。

If I had shown this coverall to my younger self as a student, I’m sure I would have said, “It’s just workwear.”

But now I understand.The more like “just workwear” a piece is, impeccably made, the more it becomes part of your daily uniform.。

Precisely because it is unadorned, it blends most naturally into your everyday life.
