A-grade disguised as B-grade

「B品のふりをしたA級」

Good evening, I’m Matsushima from cantáte.

“What I thought was B-grade turned out to be an A-grade trick.”

When you first see these pants, you may feel a little puzzled.

Because……

The stitching runs wild in double lines, the flat-felled seams miss their mark, and the selvedge peeks out──

A series of details that look as though they might be sewing mistakes.

Could it be that I am being made to buy a B-grade item…?

But look closely.

Every one of those details is actually “intentional.”

If only one pair out of 100 had this look, it would be B-grade.

But what if all 100 pairs had this look?

There is no choice but to call that an A-grade item.

It is, in other words, a slightly absurd series.

These 《WW II Work Trousers》are painter pants made from lightweight, 10-ounce denim.

However, they are not merely light, breezy denim pants.

By removing the folder (the attachment used for flat-felled seams) before sewing—a specification that makes artisans cry—we create an appearance that would normally be impossible.

Not “correct and beautiful,” but “cool because it is misaligned.”

that is the finish we aimed for.

While grounding them in the universality of workwear,

We deliberately inserted a “twisted aesthetic” into them.

That was the significance we invested in these pants.

Naturally, no detail has been overlooked.

It uses a TALON bell-shaped zipper with cotton zipper tape.

The fastener is a vintage-style U-shaped clasp.

The zipper tape is also attached using the primitive method of folding it over and stitching it down.

The lower sides of the fly extension and facing are left raw-edged. This, too, is a delightfully unconventional detail.

The coin pocket is left raw-edged.

You do not have to use it, but try stretching the mouth of this pocket from time to time and wearing it that way.

It gives the piece more character.

The hidden L-pocket on the inside uses selvedge.

A straight silhouette that drops dramatically, and when rolled up, the selvedge peeks out only from the right leg──(These are my personal pair, so I had the hems altered!)

even that single glimpse is actually the result of meticulous calculation.

If this were just one pair out of 100,

It might have been processed as, “Sorry, this is a B-grade item.”

But what if everyone were “misaligned” in the same way?

That is no longer *“B-grade”; it is a “specification.”*

If only one out of 100 were like that, it would be an “error.”

But if all 100 pairs were like that, it would be a “rule.”

This pair of pants was born from that reversal in perspective.

We live in an age overflowing with products that are ever more polished and beautiful.

Have highly refined items begun to feel a little boring to you?

《WW II Work Trousers》is a pair designed to disrupt such predictable harmony.

An intentionally created B-grade item.

What lies here is not perfected beauty, but rather the charm of being “unfinished.”

If this sensibility resonates with you, this will surely become an irresistible pair.

For those who find ordinary denim unsatisfying.

Please experience cantate’s aesthetic of “displacement” for yourself.
