The option to get it wet.
A leather jacket must not be allowed to get wet.
Many people think so.
But I,Soaking it thoroughly in the shower.

The left is new; the right is my own.
Good evening. This is cantáte Matushima.
Today, I would like to talk about how it develops with age.
For details on the specifications and design of the leather jacket, please see here.
This sheepskin was also wetted as soon as it was finished.
And then I continued wearing it every day for a week.
The reason is simple:Because I do not want to be upset by a sudden rain shower.

Leather that has once been thoroughly wetted and dried
It will not react excessively the next time it gets wet.
Move the fibers during the first wetting.
That alone allows the leather to settle.
Clothes you wear while worrying about rain make you hold back somehow.
Once you face it at the beginning, you no longer need to worry about it.

It has only been worn for a week.
This sheepskin has not been thickly stiffened with pigment.
Because it has a dye-focused finish, the fibers move naturally.

The large wrinkles that appear precisely because it got wet
They loosen once when they absorb water,
The fibers tighten as it dries.
At that moment, the leather becomes slightly crisp.
I think people are the same.
If you apply nothing after a bath, your skin feels taut.
As moisture leaves, the surface draws taut.
Leather tightens, too.
is that distinctively “crisp texture.”
The reason people say, “That’s fine leather,”
It lies not only in the amount of oil, but in this firmness.
Softness alone does not create character.
Its firmness is what allows it to settle in afterward.

Wetting it in the shower may seem rather rough.
But for me, it is breaking it in.
The way the shoulders drop.
The way the elbows settle in.
The forward sweep of the front panels.
but by pressing the body’s pressure into it all at once.
Not by creating it through processing,
Shape it with body heat and weight.
As a result, it may look as though it has been worn for a year.
But that does not mean shortening the process.
I simply etched my own time into it first.
Wetting it for the first time may be an act of commitment.
Not to keep this leather in storage,
To make it into something to be used.
And thankfully,
This sheepskinIt is steadily making its way to wonderful new owners.
Leather is better off being worn by someone than left sitting unused.
