“I tried to put into words why I’m drawn to these glasses.”

Actually, before I discovered these glasses called 10 eyevan, I wore another brand too.
Until then, glasses were just glasses.
They used to be something I wore reluctantly because I couldn’t function without seeing.
But after discovering 10 eyevan, my way of thinking changed.
This is a “tool.”
They became one of my essential work tools, alongside the stationery I love using and my Leica camera.

“They loosen no matter how many times I tighten them”──there’s a good reason for that problem.
If you’ve worn glasses for a long time, I think you’ll know exactly what I mean.
Have you ever had the screws in your hinges loosen?
Even if you tighten them again, they’ll be loose once more the next day.
That’s because differences in the “coefficient of friction” between the metals of the frame and screw cause the screw to wear down through opening, closing, and vibrations while walking.
In other words, once they loosen (or wear down), they’re no longer functioning.
But with 10 eyevan, they won’t budge even after years of use.
The frame and screws are made from the same β-titanium, and they even use the same Torx screws as an iPhone.
They’re “screws that don’t loosen,” made by the ultimate screw specialists.
…so when I hear that, I have to ask: is anyone tightening them with an “iPhone screwdriver”?

One “Seriously? Really? No way!” after another
For someone like me, who has worn glasses continuously since childhood, 10 eyevan brought one surprise after another.
At first, I honestly wasn’t convinced.

Even when he said, “10 eyevan will solve all those problems,” I thought, “No way, surely that’s impossible…”
But when we met again six months later and he asked, “How are they?”, it suddenly hit me.
Huh? I haven’t had any problems.
If anything, they still look brand-new even though I use them every day.
That’s actually quite remarkable.

Not “10 individual parts,” but “10 philosophies.”
As the brand name suggests, 10 eyevan has “10 parts.”
But it isn’t merely a specification.

“This is how it should be.” “This would be more beautiful.”
I think it’s an accumulation of this design philosophy.
I’ve met him many times, but he’s someone who talks more about clothing than glasses.
To me, he’s a “weirdo who quietly makes extraordinary products.” That’s a compliment.

But there are a few things I simply have to talk about.

■ β-Titanium Torx Screw & Closing Block Hinge
A “screw that doesn’t loosen.”
You might even think they designed this screw before designing the glasses themselves.
■ Titanium RIM
A special rim wire carefully pressed after changing the mold again and again.
There’s an extremely tiny pattern on the back, almost invisible unless you look closely.
Glasses people can’t see without them when they take them off. What weirdos. (That’s a compliment.)
■ CR39 2 Base Curve Lens
Even as “fashion glasses,” they don’t come with dummy lenses from the outset.
They come standard with properly high-quality lenses that you can wear home straight away.
■ Shell Shaped Hinge & Shell Pad
Even with my metal allergy, I can wear these安心, thanks to the shell nose pads.
They sit comfortably against the skin and look refined, too.
They gradually wear down with use, but that’s part of their appeal.
■ Crossed Bridge

How do you take off your glasses? With one hand, right?
I do that too.
When you take them off with one hand, the glasses gradually twist.

Careful craftsmanship can even affirm your habits.

A balancer that distributes the weight resting on the nose.
It’s a subtle difference, but this part is why the glasses don’t slide down when you lean forward.
“Ornament without ornamentation” is the coolest of all
10 eyevan glasses are not ornamental.
But the more you look at them, the more refined and uncompromising they appear.
For example, the subtly curved bridge, the exceptionally careful plating, and the finishing of every detail.
Not excessive, yet genuinely beautiful.
This isn’t the aesthetics of design, but the aesthetics of “engineering.”

I also think of clothing as a “tool.”
Something with a purpose, such as protecting the body or regulating body temperature.
eyevan has various labels, but this line alone is completely a “tool.”
The tension, specifications, wearing comfort, weight──
Their level of refinement for everyday use is in a class of its own.
Glasses made on the premise that they will be used for a long time.
I don’t know of any other glasses this wonderful.
